Drug smuggler caught because of his large belly

A 30-year-old student was busted at Manchester Airport as he tried to smuggle up to 67 packages past UK Customs. Student, Fidelis Ozouli, had swallowed and estimated £250,000 worth of cocaine in 67 separate packages. However, eagle eyed customers officers noticed Ozouli looked unusually bloated for a man of his size and pulled him over. After a short time questioning him they took the man for an x-ray where they discovered the 1kg of cocaine in his stomach. This could have been potentially life threatening if one or more of the packages had leaked into Mr Ozouli body system.

The guilty man from Nigeria, but studying in London, at first said he did not know that what he had was illegal drugs. The amount found was one of the largest hauls found internally by customs officials, roughly two bags of sugar, and was said to be 78 per cent pure cocaine. Mr Ozouli still claimed he did not that he was carrying drugs into Britain saying it was just something for his friend. He pleaded guilty to the charge of importing drugs at Manchester Crown Court and was sentenced to 10-year imprisonment.

Mr Ozouli was stopped after a flight from Zurich in Switzerland and asked what his business was. He answered that he was returning from a business meeting for a pharmaceutical. After short enquiries it was discovered that he was actually on his way back from various countries in Africa and was taking a very long route to do so.
