Two allegedly drunk women sparked a fight on a flight taxiing to the terminal at a major US airport on Wednesday. The duo began playing loud music through their own media-player just after the Spirit Airlines operated flight had touched down at Los Angeles International Airport.
Witnesses to the brawl said other passengers asked the pair if they could reduce the music’s volume. One of the women is then said to have asked what’r you gonna do if we don’t?
One of the women also held up the boom-box in a come-on gesture to antagonise the group of passengers who had asked them to reduce the sound. The group needed no further invitation and three women yanked off their seatbelts and flew at the offending women.
Video footage shot by other passengers aboard Spirit Airlines Flight 141 shows the trio landing blows on their adversaries as well as pulling their hair. One of the cabin crew rushed over to try and break up the fracas, but it took a couple of minutes before tempers cooled down.
Witnesses say cabin staff were slow to react as they were still strapped into their seats from the landing. A spokesperson for the Florida-based budget carrier has confirmed the brawl on the Baltimore to Los Angeles service.
Paul Berry said two female passengers who seemed as though they were intoxicated had goaded three others into a fight. He added that although airport security personnel and FBI agents had questioned the women, they were ultimately not charged with any offence.
