Last week saw the launch of a fleet of E-Car Club rental vehicles on the streets of St Andrews. The electric vehicle hire firm has collaborated with St Andrews University and Transport Scotland in launching what is currently Scotland’s biggest electric vehicle hire fleet.
E-Car Club marketing-director Patrick Cresswell was on hand for the inauguration ceremonies in St Andrews on Tuesday. Faculty members from St Andrews and local dignitaries applauded as Mr Cresswell officially launched the service by cutting the ceremonial ribbon on the town square.
E-Car hires electric vehicles out with per hour rates starting at £4.50 and fees from £35 for a 24-hour period. The fees are fully inclusive of charges and insurance. Initial enrolment fees for members are £50.
Chris Morris is the managing director of E-Car Club and he said the firm was pleased to add St Andrews to its portfolio of UK locations. He added that St Andrews is quite remote from other towns and cities and residents have always seen car ownership as necessary, but E-Car offered a great alternative.
Mr Morris further explained that St Andrews is small and parking spaces are at a premium nowadays. He finished off by saying E-Car Club provided a cut-rate means of access to environmentally friendly cars for residents, students and holidaymakers.
The firm has three pick-up locations in the town and these are North Haugh Gateway, David Russell Apartments and the Agnes Blackadder Halls. E-Car has launched its St Andrews service with a fleet of 10 Renault ZOE hatchbacks and Kangoo vans.
