EasyJet expands at Budapest Airport
Posted on: September 30th, 2008 by Doug SmithBritish low-cost carrier has decided to expand its already prominent presence at Budapest’s Ferihegy Airport this week, when it announced that it would start offering a set of new flights from the Hungarian capital to the Paris-Orly Airport. The new flights are scheduled to take off in November and, as such, just in time for the Christmas holidays. Over the years, easyJet has built up an impressive presence at Ferihegy Terminal 1, where it competes with European giant Ryanair, as well as smaller carriers like Sterling and Hungary’s very own discount airline, Wizz Air. Other easyJet flights from Budapest include regular service to London-Luton, as well as direction connections to Geneva, Dortmund and Berlin-Schoenefeld.
EasyJet currently controls around 6 percent of the commercial aviation market in Hungary, but it is among the largest players when it comes to low-cost carriers. Yet the British aviation giant has clearly indicated that it plans to expand its presence in this Central European country, and the fact that SkyEurope effectively pulled out from Budapest last year may actually provide it with a key opening. But in addition to expansion in Hungary, easyJet is also well aware of the challenges facing the entire air travel industry and the carrier has already warned that its passenger traffic figures are likely to dip noticeably during what might prove to be quieter than usual winter months.
Thank you to SkyScanner for the initial report.
