Easyjet set to operate from Doncaster Airport
Posted on: December 14th, 2009 by Martin FellowesThe UK’s biggest airline, Easyjet, is to begin operating flights from Doncaster’s Robin Hood Airport as of spring 2010. This is welcomed news for the airport after it faced an uncertain future in October when Peel Holdings, the current owners, revealed that they were looking for investors to purchase stakes in the airport. Gloomy winter travel numbers piled on the pressure and Ryanair then pulled the plug on their services from the airport claiming it was too expensive to continue its operations.
Bosses of the airport are excited by the arrival of 21 new flights with Easyjet that will start on the 19th of April. Business over the following 12 months has high predictions with double digit growth expected. Easyjet flew their first aircraft into the airport yesterday and managers and representatives of Peel Holdings were there to welcome the plane hit the tarmac.
Amsterdam, Faro, Barcelona, Prague and Palma are just a few of the new routes that Easyjet will fly between and the new destinations will be a mixture of sunshine holiday destinations and city breaks. The move by Easyjet comes as it attempts to delve into the Yorkshire attachment area to increase its offerings to even more of the UK. As well as looking to attract more people from the north if the UK to use the airport, Easyjet also hopes to bring in more custom from abroad in a bid to highlight Yorkshire as an attractive place for Europeans to visit as well as vice versa.
