Edinburgh road hog tries to intimidate learner driver taking test

CEF vanVideo footage of a road hog in a white van harassing a learner driver while she was in the process of taking her driving test has gone viral this week. The imagery taken in Edinburgh shows a van with a CEF logo on the front of it speeding up behind the car in an obvious attempt to get the driver to go faster.

The man in the van kept speeding up behind the car and when she stopped to allow other traffic to pass he stopped and threw up his hands in despair while shouting at the learner. He then hooted his horn before backing up and then trying to pull out in the opposite lane to overtake.

The whole incident was captured by dashcams in the Angus Driving School car. It happened on Lanark Road West just before 11:00 on Monday. The examiner told the woman taking her test to disregard the van as its driver was not driving properly. It seemed as though the advice was heeded as the learner driver passed her driving test.

The driving school’s owner, Angus MacDougall, said the video of the white van driver’s actions was shocking, but he felt proud that it had not fazed his pupil as she had passed her test with flying colours. A Scotland’s Worst Drivers representative also said the van driver’s behaviour was disgusting and praised the woman for staying calm enough to pass the test.

CEF is the business logo of City Electrical Factors and fleet operations manager Ian Thorn said it was treating the allegation seriously. He said the incident had been logged and he would be contacting the Edinburgh office with a view to interviewing the driver involved.
