Edinburgh unveils new car rental centre plans
Posted on: August 20th, 2008 by Taylor SmithEdinburgh Airport has revealed its plan for a new car rental centre with a price tag of £9.5 million. The facility has been designed to satisfy the growing demand seen from international visitors.
The new centre will be situated between the short- and long-stay car parking facilities and will be linked to the main terminal building of the airport by a covered walkway.
Based on a reception facility that consolidates the counters for all major rental car companies, used widely in the US, the centre will also offer shared back-up services, such as re-fuelling, valet service and car washing.
Approximately 180,000 passengers annually hire cars at Edinburgh Airport, and that number is expected to increase to around 230,000 by 2010.
Edinburgh will be the first UK airport to feature this type of consolidated facility for car hire. The opening is planned for the spring of 2009.
The managing director of Edinburgh Airport, Gordon Dewar, said: “By offering more choice and convenience, a more efficient service and through making use of sustainable design techniques, this project makes sense for our passengers, our business partners and for the environment.”
