A flight from Mumbai to Dubai was astonishingly ordered to abort its take-off on Sunday and return to the terminal after a phone call to officials at the airport warned that there was a terrorist on board the plane. The anonymous caller had also apparently given the seat that the suspected terrorist was sitting in, 17F. After the plane returned to the terminal all the passengers were disembarked into a holding area and check were made.
The news of this story comes in the wake of leaked information that a terrorist organisation is trying to target Indian airlines for a possible attack on London. There has been information released that they plan to hijack a plane and fly into a building of some kind in the UK capital. The plane was allowed to continue its flight later in the day, but two men were thought to have been detained for further questioning.
On Saturday a plane from Ghana bound to the UK had to make an emergency landing in Algeria after the pilot reported a hydraulic problem. The Ghana International Airlines flight had landed in a town in the African country and passengers were then airlifted to Libya to await an onward flight. No one was hurt in the incident and a GIA statement played down the incident saying that the plane landed as a precautionary measure of safety.
Reports aboard the plane talk of a loud explosion that went off shortly after the plane was in the air. There are no reported injuries among the 115 passengers and crew, although some were suffering from shock.
