Emirates in near-miss over Melbourne

Emirates have introduced brand new safety measures after a flight bound for Dubai almost crashed into a busy area of Melbourne. The accident happened after the pilots in charge of the aircraft miscalculated the weight of the craft and struggled to reach the desired altitude during take-off. It has been claimed that the passengers on board the flight were unaware of the situation and only found out about the incident after the flight.

The tail of the aircraft hit the runway five times before only just taking off and it flew so close to the ground that it wasn’t showing on the air traffic control radar. The new safety measures have now been brought into play in a bid to avoid any future mistakes.

It would have been the worst crash in aviation history in Australia if the pilot had not managed to pull the craft to the correct altitude. The pilot admitted after the incident that at the time he thought he was going to die and a report will be released to the public at the end of October. The aircraft was carrying 18 crew and 257 passengers during the incident and the majority of them knew nothing of the near-miss.
