In what may prove to be a truly groundbreaking development for the commercial airline industry, Emirates Airlines has decide to install showers on some its planes, allowing passengers on long-haul flights to freshen up prior to landing. Yet passengers eagerly awaiting to take advantage of this opportunity should keep in mind that during the initial period, this facility will only be available on Emirates’ Dubai to New Zealand routes, served by Airbus A-380 airplanes. Additionally, the only way to enjoy this unparalleled luxury is to buy a first class ticket for a rather hefty price. Those in economy class will have to settle for complimentary wet wipes after dinner.
First class passengers will also face some restrictions when using the airplane’s shower cubicles. Travelers should remember that this is an opportunity for a quick wash, not a lengthy, relaxing bath. As such, Emirates is limiting showers to a maximum of five minutes each. The showers, however, are expected to be quite comfortable, as each of them will be fit with heated floors and television screens will ensure that passengers are aware of the flight’s progress. There will also be a small waiting area outside the shower cubicles with comfortable leather seats. But those passengers who might forget how much time they have remaining allotted to them can expect to receive a reminder, thanks to a set of lights that start slashing, indicating when their session will come to an end.
Emirates will eventually fly a total of 58 Airbus jets.
