Enterprise and Alamo in Hawaiian expansion

In spite of a decline in the number of visitors to Hawaii, Enterprise Rent-A-Car and sister company Alamo Rent A Car, have reported that they will expand to other islands in the state.

Last summer, Enterprise opened a rental car outlet at Honolulu International Airport, and has announced that on June 1 it will expand Hawaiian operations to Hilo and Kona on the big island, and to Lihue, on Kauai.

Alamo has said that it will launch a rental car concession at Molokai Airport on the same date.

“Even though travel is down in this economy, we think we are very well-positioned, and committed to growth in the long-term future,” said Laura Bryant, a spokeswoman for Enterprise.

Enterprise and Alamo won concession rights at the island airports through a bidding process. A limited number of slots are allotted to rental car companies.

In Hilo and Kona, the Enterprise operation will join rental car operators Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National and Thrifty.

On Molokai, Alamo joins other rental companies Budget, Dollar, Island Kine Auto Rental & Sales and Molokai Rent a Car & Sales.

Enterprise’s vice president and general manager, Paul Kopel, said that the company will offer special resident, or kamaaina, pricing and corporate rates with both the Enterprise and Alamo brands.

The Kona, Lihue and Molokai operations will be staffed locally, according to Kopel.
