Enterprise Rent-A-Car announced this week that one of its locations in south Florida is to be designated as the car rental industry’s first ‘E85/FlexFuel’ branch in this part of the country. The branch at Hallandale Beach in Broward County is part of Enterprise’s nation-wide effort to expand its commitment to the use of clean fuels and technologies.
About one-fourth of the vehicles available at the Broward County location are FlexFuel vehicles that can run on E85 fuel, which is a blend of ethanol and gasoline – 85% ethanol and 14% gasoline. To date, E85 has been available mostly in the mid-west region, but is becoming increasingly available in other parts of the nation – now including the south-east. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has reported that using E85 can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent.
“An important component of Enterprise’s environmental stewardship program is to embrace new, clean fuels and automotive technologies,” noted the vice president and general manager of Enterprise’s south Florida operations, Alan Levine. “As these technologies and alternative fuels become commercially viable, we’ll continue to support them and work with our partners to educate and encourage our customers to use them.”
