Enterprise opens FlexFuel car rental location in Texas

Enterprise Rent-A-Car has converted one of its Texas car hire outlets to specifically serve clients interested in renting environmentally-friendly and fuel-efficient FlexFuel vehicles. The location is situation in the Dallas/Fort Worth agglomeration and is actually the international firm’s first such outlet in the “Lone Star” state. In order to celebrate the occasion, Enterprise filled up its E85/FlexFuel passenger vehicles with fuel for only 85.9 cents per gallon, which is far lower than the regular market price. Enterprise made the announcement in collaboration with General Motors, which also used the opportunity to introduce its first Hummer that will be able to run on E85 fuel. The fuel-efficient and environmentally-friendly H2 will come out later this year, as a 2009 model.

The new Enterprise FlexFuel outlet is located in Grapevine, Texas, and roughly one quarter of all cars available as part of the outlet’s fleet are GM FlexFuel vehicles. These cars can run on both traditional gasoline, as well as on E85, a form of fuel comprised of both Ethanol and regular petrol. The Ethanol composition of E85, however, stands at an impressive 85 percent and this proportion is indicated in the fuel’s name. The Environmental Protection Agency has shown that cars which run on this fuel have a very positive impact when it comes to greenhouse gas reductions. In fact, these vehicles are said to emit approximately 20 percent less carbon than cars that run entirely on regular fuel.

Brent Russell, who serves as Enterprise’s Dallas-based general manager, observed that his firm has a longstanding commitment to “environmental stewardship” projects and plans to continue to introduce cleaner fuels in the near future. In addition to its new Grapevine location, Enterprise already has a handful of similar E85 outlets, namely in Washington DC, Charlotte, NC, Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton, Ohio. Enterprise currently offers renters in the US a choice of over 4,000 hybrid cars.
