To assist in the aftermath of the earthquake that occurred in China on May 12th, the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation has pledged $100,000 towards relief efforts.
“While Enterprise, National and Alamo do not have a significant presence in this portion of the world, we have a number of employees whose families have been impacted,” Jo Ann Taylor Kindle, president of the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Foundation, said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to them and all those affected by this tragedy.”
The earthquake struck in the Sichuan province in the central region of China and registered a 7.9 on the Richter scale, causing massive destruction. The Shanghai daily reported the death toll to have exceeded 21,500 as a result of the quake but the numbers are still rising as rescuers sift through the rubble and continue to find bodies. Perhaps as many as 15,000 people are though to remain trapped and wait help.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car is a family owned and operated business. The Taylor family of St. Louis also operates National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car. In St. Louis, Enterprise is the largest company in St. Louis still in private hands, bringing in more than $9.5 billion in profits last year.
