Enterprise Rent-A-Car Announces Environmental Initiatives
Posted on: June 6th, 2007 by Martin FellowesEnterprise Rent-A-Car has today announced the car rental industry’s latest environmental initiative. The company has several long term goals including the introduction of fuel efficient vehicles into their fleet. More FlexFuel and gas/electric hybrid vehicles are to be purchased and Enterprise are going to make a commitment to alternative fuel research programmes. The company spokesman and CEO Mr Andrew C Taylor said, “We know that more and more consumers expect the companies that serve them to share their concerns about the environment. For our company and our industry to be successful, we must address those concerns while also working to sustain our business over the long term,”
Enterprise already has more fuel efficient cars on the road than any other car rental company throughout the world, with more than 334,000 vehicles in its fleet (47%) capable of averaging at least 28 miles per gallon. Twenty eight percent of Enterprise’s world wide fleet is averaging at least 32 miles per gallon.
During 2006 Enterprise led the way with its FlexFuel initiative which was aimed at maximizing the use of 41,000 trucks and cars that have the ability to burn ethanol based fuels. These engines employ a technology that allows them to use corn based ethanol instead of petrol or diesel thereby reducing reliance on these conventional fuels.
A fleet of more than 3000 gas/electric hybrid vehicles are also being run by the company.
