Enterprise Rent-A-Car will be joining in with the likes of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and npower, all of whom have decided to move away from the traditional academic requirements when accessing candidates for employment. All three companies have said they will now consider employees based on qualification and experience as well as degrees and credentials.
The news may come as an interesting side bit for graduates with lower qualifying certificates or individuals with no certificates at all. The car hire company, which in the past year has recruited roughly 750 UK graduates, is beginning to see the need for a change in assessments and is urging other firms to reconsider as well.
The company has abolished any filter schemes and will accept any applicants with a degree and applicants without so long as those applicants can prove they have business skills or prowess. The European HR director for Enterprise, Donna Miller, said that it seems to be a more equitable way to handle things and evens out the playing field for applicants with potential to do well in the industry. She added that the new screening process actually allows the company to interview more suitable candidates for their company.
She continued, by saying that by allowing a diverse number of individuals to apply, the company then has a diverse percentage of candidates which in turn gives the company a strategic advantage. PwC made a similar change as well, after they believed that the industry became saturated with students who had high educations but really no business savy.
