On Tuesday, rental car giant Enterprise Rent-A-Car announced that it would be doubling the number of gas-electric hybrid vehicles in its fleet, adding 5,000 additional cars.
The U.S.-based operator will also designate 80 of its locations in various parts of the country as “hybrid branches”, where renters can reserve hybrid vehicles by phone, online or in person. Three are in the St. Louis, Missouri, area – two in the city and a third will be opened in the vicinity of the St. Louis International Airport.
Hybrids have become more popular with rental car customers, as they offer greater fuel economy, using less gasoline and producing lower emissions levels than traditional cars. Some of the cars available at Enterprise include the Ford Escape, the Nissan Altima, and the Toyota Camry and Prius.
The new additions will be available at 24 of Enterprise’s rental markets. Along with St. Louis, also included are Fresno, Los Angeles, Sacramento, and San Francisco, in California; Seattle, Washington; Eugene and Portland, Oregon; Denver, Colorado; Orlando and Tampa, in Florida; Albany, Ithaca, New York City, and Rochester, New York; Austin, Dallas, and Houston, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; Boston, Massachusetts; Detroit, Michigan; Minneapolis, Minnesota; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and Washington, D.C.
Enterprise now boasts 7,000 hybrid vehicles in its fleet, with an additional 2,000 at its Alamo and National brand rental locations.
