It now seems that one of the largest rental car companies in the world, and the largest in North America, is going to start offering electric vehicles at select locations starting next year. This car rental company is Enterprise, and they are apparently going to start off by offering the Nissan Leaf. However, reports are suggesting that this is not the only car that will be offered.
Reports do show that Enterprise has just recently said that it has 500 Nissan Leaf’s on order. They are expecting the delivery of these cars in January 2011. These electric cars are said to get about 100 miles off one charge. They will first be offered to people in Phoenix and Knoxville. However, there are other places that will see the release of the Leaf not long after that.
Due to the fact that Enterprise will be offering electrical cars, the company is looking to start installing charging stations at some of their locations starting November 2010. Of course, they are going to start off with the places that will be offering the electric cars.
Overall, the company does intend to add other kinds of electric vehicles to its list. All of these cars will not just come from Nissan. The company hopes to get other cars from other manufacturers as soon as they become available.
Lee Broughton, who is the director of sustainability for Enterprise, said that as a company that owns and operates the world’s largest fleet of passenger cars, they have a vested interest into alternative-powered vehicles. Since many airports and neighborhood locations are located within 15 miles of 90 percent of the United States population, the idea of an electric car seems to be a perfect fit.
