Europcar has announced that it is teaming up with car maker Nissan to promote electric cars.
The partnership will make it possible for car hire customers in Australia and New Zealand to rent electricity-powered cars from a number of Europcar outlets as early as next year.
Electric cars will be introduced by the rental car company in Europe first. The Australasian sector will see the introduction on the new Nissan vehicles following their launch throughout the Europcar fleet in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the UK. Other countries in which Europcar operates will see the introduction of the electric cars at a later date.
Ashley Jurberg, the group marketing manager for Europcar in Australia and New Zealand commented that the new agreement was a significant move forward in zero-emission motoring, and would provide its customers with increasing numbers of options for “green” road travel.
Jurberg said: “This will give our customers the means to significantly reduce their carbon emissions when they rent a vehicle from us,” adding: “According to the Federal Government the transport sector currently contributes 14% of Australia’s total greenhouse gas emissions.”
He went on to say: “The partnership between Europcar and Nissan will deliver new standards in eco-motoring for companies and individuals who want to actively reduce these emission levels.”
