Europcar Invests in UK Network

Europcar Logo & KeychainEuropcar UK has continued to invest in the quality of its operations by appointing Robert Shaw as its new operations director. The company says that Shaw has more than 25 years of experience in the rental industry and will drive plans forward that will develop the group’s network in the UK. This key appointment is part of the company’s overall business strategy as it maintains its competitive position.

Robert has been a part of Europcar since 2001, when he joined as regional manager, and in 2007, he became regional director. Before starting a successful career with the company, he was appointed to several key management roles at other major car hire providers. His experience in strategic planning, operations, management and sales will be invaluable in his new operations director role.

Shaw says that Europcar continues to focus on the improvement of customer service levels and this will be a key area for the operations team. He aims to develop their network by making their products and services more convenient and accessible to consumers and plans to open more locations in transport locations in major British cities. This expansion will be supported by high performance levels through their collection and delivery service and major new launches designed to improve their customer offering.

Shaw added that customer service will be at the heart of all they do, and they will ensure the company meets customer demand in a competitive market. He’s also looking forward to channelling the commitment and expertise of the operations team to drive new levels of success.

Shaw will report to Europcar Group UK managing director Ken McCall. McCall says Roberts has a deep understanding of the company and a lot of expertise in the rental industry. This makes him a natural choice for the operations director role. He’s confident Shaw will lead and inspire the team to create a leading vehicle hire network in the UK. He will play a key role in introducing commercial initiatives designed to provide the best service levels to consumers and support the group’s overall business strategy.

In other Europcar news, earlier this month the company said that it’s helping corporate clients meet their CSR and environmental objectives by guaranteeing diesel vehicles for reservations. Corporate customers will be able to specify the fuel type as diesel when they make their booking. At the same time, the company is lowering costs by allowing their clients to make a positive choice that will reduce their business travel spending.

McCall said of the offering that they are one of the biggest car rental networks in the UK with the most costly fleet. This means they can guarantee corporate and fleet clients access to diesel vehicles. By allowing corporate customers to specify a fuel type within a vehicle group, they can make sure they meet their emissions targets. The clients can also improve fuel economy at a time when more pressure is being put on costs.

The new offering also delivers cost savings for individuals on “Benefit-in-Kind” BIK tax, which is payable on company vehicles made available for private use. Employees will be able to reduce their BIK payments by choosing a lower emission diesel vehicle. Employers can also save on fuel costs and Class 1A National Insurance contributions, which are calculated based on the BIK rate.
