Europcar survey suggests car hire is the future
Posted on: November 30th, 2009 by Peter HeadleyAccording to a new survey by the rental car firm Europcar we are all thinking long and hard about our choice of transportation. Surprisingly a massive eight out of 10 have said they have looked closely at their driving habits since the recession has taken hold of the world and seven out of 10 are seriously thinking of car hire to cut the costs of maintenance and wear and tear from their overheads.
This past year has not been a great one and the cost of fuel has been slowly rising on our forecourts. Interest rates have jumped and the general cost of living is continuing to rise despite a high of un-employment in Great Britain. Many families have looked at their second car and decided it is an added expense that they just simply do not need at the moment. So they have been traded-in, in favour of using a rental car as and when needed.
The survey has also shown that 68n per cent of those asked have already hired a car for a family holiday in the past year for a variety of reasons, the main being so not to add wear and tear to their own. That number is set to rise next year as 73 per cent said they would hire a car for the family holiday next year also.
Despite this the car rental industry has had an indifferent year with mixed results across the board. Most firms reduced their fleet in with expected demand and run out of cars during the peak summer months. In the winter months though rental has again dropped off as people look to save money and the luxury of hire cars goes out the window.
