Europe remained top for British travellers
Posted on: February 8th, 2010 by Samantha WilliamsDespite the many rumours going around last year that us Brits were foregoing the European vacation for more exotic locations, a recent poll by the Post Office revealed that around 36 per cent opted for holidays in the EU. The Post Office is also giving us more reasons to stay within EU this year, and that includes places that fall under the euro zone.
The dramatic rise of the euro against the fall of the pound scared some of us into going farther afield in the hope of securing more value for the pound. Travel agents reported a rise in holidays to Egypt, America and other places as the pound kept tumbling against our neighbours. However, this year is looking slightly better as the euro is slowly losing a little value against the pound, making popular places like Spain and France once again more appealing. Other European destinations like Portugal and Greece are looking good for holidays this year as the cost is coming down of day to day expenses.
There have been many great early-bird savings on trips in Europe this year and we are apparently trying to snap them up. Airlines, hotels and car rental companies are offering some great deals for DIY traveller who wants to book everything separately. These deals are not going to be around for too long though as the cost of travel is slowly creeping with the rise in oil prices for airfares and airport taxes. If you have not already booked your holiday and want a great deal, it seems like now is the time to do it.
