Expedia and Groupon Launch Groupon Getaways

Groupon Getaways with ExpediaExpedia, the leading online travel agent in the world, partnered with daily deals pioneer Groupon to officially launch Groupon Getaways with Expedia on Tuesday. This new travel deals offering promises offers that will save customers up to 50% off regular rates at select hotels and resorts, but each deal will only be available for a limited time. The joint offering also promises to shake-up the fast growing world of flash-sale travel sites, as well as email dozens of offers by the day or week to those who sign up.

The deals are offered under the Groupon model, where users can buy a discount voucher for a limited time. However, the voucher can be redeemed at a future time so buyers don’t have to make a booking right away. The new live deals are due to reach Groupon and Expedia’s combined 50 million members and will access Expedia’s 135,000-strong hotel database. Groupon Getaways will also only be valid to the limited number of users who buy the deal. Members should also read the fine print since the deals may include add-ons that guests may or may not want – like dinner for 2 or gaming credits.

Consumers will get to choose from a mix of travel deals – activities at premiere locations, discounts at 4- and 5-star hotels and resorts, weekend packages close to home, etc. This week subscribers have the chance to snag a $144 one-night weekend stay at Las Vegas’s The Palms Casino Resort, which includes a breakfast buffet for 2, gaming credit and direct access pass – all a $299 value. Also available is: $139 one-night stay at Dallas’s The Stoneleigh Hotel & Spa in a premier king room, which includes a 25% discount at the spa and lavish breakfast for 2; and $2,086 five-night stay for 6 at Bangkok’s The Tower Club at Lebua in the 3 bedroom hangover suite, which includes a daily 60-minute aromatherapy massage for every guest.

However, these are only a few of the deals available now. Customers will need to visit the Groupon Getaways with Expedia website to see more, but as they will see, these are selling out fast.

Expedia president Scott Durchslag says that they aim to give travellers a way to capitalise on holiday dreams that may not be realised otherwise. Travelling can be complex, and Groupon Getaways with Expedia is simple – members sign up and the deals are emailed to them so that they can buy a voucher and use it on a trip in their own time.

Groupon senior vice president of new business Aaron Cooper says that Groupon Getaways with Expedia combines expertise from both companies in delivering unbeatable value to create unforgettable experiences. The new offering celebrates the adventure and fun of travel, and they will introduce interesting places to subscribers at price tags they won’t anticipate.
