Ferguson slams Carragher

Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson today branded Jamie Carragher’s tackle on his winger Nani during last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat against Liverpool as “shameful”.

The Portuguese winger will be out for anything up to three weeks and will require stitches to repair a leg wound that was inflicted by Carragher’s challenge in the first half. It was disgraceful, we know that, but we must move on, commented Ferguson. It’s difficult to say when he will be fit for action however we won’t get our winger back until next Saturday for the Bolton match, it was added. The international is definitely out of today’s FA Cup quarter-final clash against Arsenal, and also Tuesday’s Champions League match with Marseille.

Our doctors have managed to stitch it, and they deserve credit for that as it is great news, Ferguson beamed. However, we must guard against infection and it’s difficult to give a date for when Nani will be back in action. On the other hand, a big plus is that there is a two-week holiday starting next Saturday, Ferguson concluded.

The 24-year-old, who moved to Old Trafford in June 2007 from Lisbon, was felled before half-time in the Premier League defeat against Liverpool on the 6th of March – prompting an ugly clash between players from both sides.

After the match, many observers felt that Carragher’s challenge should have meant a straight red card, instead of the yellow that was handed over by referee Phil Dowd.
