Finnair set to charge for alcohol
Posted on: November 30th, 2009 by Robert BergersonThe Finnish national carrier, Finnair, have announced that they will charge for all alcoholic drinks on their short-haul flights from next year. It will become effective from the 12th January on all their European flights and things like red and white wine will be charged for at €5 and lesser drinks like beer at €4. Stronger alcoholic drinks and sparkling wine is already charged for their European flights at €5.
The charge will only affect the economy class passengers as business class will still receive their drinks complimentary. Those on long-haul will not be affected by the change and continue to receive free beer and wine when travelling on flights. Alcoholic drinks are still on for consumption after 10:00 on all flights with the airline.
On a better note and also from the 12th January you can now pre-order most of your in-flight duty frees before travelling to the airport. Products like cosmetics, perfume and gifts can all be ordered for you to collect so there will not be that upsetting point when they have sold out of your chosen item. The pre-order can also be taken advantage of on flights from Helsinki to 23 destination including Berlin and Oslo.
Finnair have become another airline that has decided to charge for products or services that were previously free. Earlier this British Airways took away their free sport equipment carriage and made it part of the checked allowance and are charging for seat allocation more than 24 hours before the flight. They also took away the complimentary meal on all flights of less than three and a half hours, except breakfast as it is the most important meal of the day.
