South Africa’s leading car hire firm has joined forces with Travelport to offer vehicle rental services in the country. The internet services provider will provide a platform allowing agents and renters real-time access to First Car Rental’s reservations system.
This allows up to 60,000 agents scattered around the world to book vehicles for pickup at any of the 49 service depots First Car Rental operates in South Africa. Pickup locations include Cape Town and Johannesburg’s OR Tambo international airports plus cities like Bloemfontein and Polokwane.
First Car Rental boasts a fleet of 6,000 vehicles in South Africa and also operates in Tanzania and Mauritius. The company’s executive officer for marketing, Melissa Storey, said the collaboration with Travelport was a win-win for renters as they would have access to premium vehicles at all the key locations in the country with the added bonus of budget-friendly daily rates.
Ms Storey continued by saying the multi-year agreement was a testament to First Car Rental’s commitment to its customer base and the burgeoning tourism industry in South Africa. The Travelport director for the region also praised the benefits of the new partnership.
George Harb stated that the tie-up was exceptional and would give car hirers unique content and added value for money. The agreement came into effect as it was signed and the content is live on Travelport. It can be accessed by car hire comparison websites worldwide.
The partnership with First Car Rental is Travelport’s second major coup recently. It has also just released news that it is providing a new AXESS desktop reservations system for travel agents in Japan.
