First snow for Scotland this week

After much of the north of the UK has been battered by severe weather they are now in for another weather warning later this week as forecasters are predicting the first snow of the season to start by the end of the week. The Met Office is predicting that much of Scotland will see some sleet or snow by Wednesday, further hampering any efforts to rebuild places that were damaged by heavy rain last week.

Not far over the border Dumfries was badly affected in the Whitesands area with several houses being flooded after rivers burst their banks and drainage could not cope with the torrential rainstorm. Sandbags were handed out in the area to try and prevent more damage by the local council and on Saturday a lone woman was rescued from a cliff edge by a helicopter after becoming stranded due to the deteriorating weather in the region.

Not far south of the Scottish border some Cumbria residents were told they would probably not be allowed back into their homes for the next six months after flooding took many towns out. Bridges were washed away and cars and trees were carried down the streets due to storming waters. Cockermouth was one of the worst affected with routes into town almost entirely cut off.

The snow could not be coming at a worse time for some residents in the north as they have just mamaged to escape the floods. With the latest weather warning of snow and sleet it could spell disaster for more people north of the border and the extra cost of the environmental damage.
