According to figures released by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) FlyBe is the largest domestic carrier for Great Britain.

The company managed the feat without the help of its partner company Loganair and carried 26 per cent of domestic air passengers in April, three per cent more than nearest rivals Easyjet. In terms of how many passengers that adds up to, again without the help Loganair, it is a staggering 451,413. This beat all the major players in the UK market like British Airways, Ryanair, Easyjet and the BMI group.

Only around six years ago Flybe was a lowly fifth in this chart, which goes to show how much they have achieved in less than a decade as Flybe. The company was originally founded in 1979 and has re-branded its name twice since 2000.

“It’s a mark of how far we’ve come that, in less than a decade. We now serve 35 airports in the UK, affirming our commitment to keeping Britain on the move through these challenging economic times. We have continued to add routes. Those out of London Gatwick in recent months such as Newquay, Dusseldorf and most recently, Leeds Bradford, have all exceeded expectations,” said chief commercial officer for Flybe, Mike Rutter.
