Formula 1 U-turn on Silverstone

It is a story that will please many race fans across the UK that the British Grand Prix is still alive and will be happening at its rightful home of Silverstone for at least the next 17 years. At the start of 2009 it was announced that the British Grand Prix would be held at Donnington, but a lack in financial backing has thrown a spanner in the works for the owners

As the 2009 season progressed the world was in awe at revelations of what was happening in this pristine sport. Mclaren were caught red handed lying at a steward’s inquiry and team boss Ron Dennis stepped down. More excitement followed as new boys Brawn GP led the field with the inspiration of legendary Ross Brawn geeing up Button and Barrichello to podium finishes.

Further down the ranks were the expected table toppers of Mclaren and Ferrari struggling to finish races on the same lap as the likes of Red Bull and Toyota. More controversy was to follow after it emerged that Renault had allegedly instructed one of their drivers to crash at the first nighttime Singapore Grand prix effectively handing the win to team mate Fernando Alonso.

During the whole season though the only thing playing on the minds of the British fans was where we would have to travel to next summer. Before we got the answer there was more great news as the Jenson Button finally won the title and the news later this year that he was to join Lewis Hamilton at Mclaren for 2010 season. Then this week the master supremo Bernie Ecclestone confirmed that the British Grand Prix will be located at Silverstone for the coming 17 years delighting many fans from across the world.
