French boss wanted for Costa Rica drink driving

Interpol has released a statement that details how the sole founder of the French firm currently at the centre of a worldwide breast implants scare has yet to face up to drink drinking charges in Costa Rica.

The international police agency has posted a “red notice” for Mr Jean-Claude Mas, aged 72, over the alleged incident, which apparently occurred in June 2010. Interpol says that the notice is “totally unconnected” with Mas’ Poly Implant Prothese firm.

Just recently, France advised 30,000 women that they should remove faulty breast implants that were made by the firm. The French government said that while there is no proven cancer risk as of yet, the implants might rupture dangerously.

In the statement, which was posted on its website, Interpol explained that it can only state how the criminal charge currently underlying Interpol’s Red Notice is relative to local charges in Costa Rica, for which three years’ imprisonment can be handed down if Mas is convicted.

Interpol – which posted a pair of police mugshots of the controversial figure – continued by adding that Costa Rica wishes to alert other countries that Mr Mas is wanted for apprehension and that it is more than willing and prepared to seek extradition should he be arrested in what would be a third country.

Women across the globe have PIP’s implants, with the majority of them living in South America and Europe. France’s health ministry says that women with PIP implants don’t have any higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer than women that have implants from other companies.
