The British Government has this week revealed plans that will increase the taxing system for those that take flights regularly. The government’s chairman of the committee on climate change, Lord Turner, has announced a new report that is sure to get on the wrong side of businesses across the UK. The increases in fees for local businesses will come from indirect taxes and extra charges that will eventually increase the cost of living.

The general consensus among UK companies is that they agree on the climate change factors and what we all have to do to help, but they feel the British Government actions always result in an increase in taxes. They have already changed the Air Passenger Duty with new fees that started on the 1st November and those prices will rise again in November next year.

It seems that the British Government, after years of encouraging growth in the air travel market, are now trying to discourage us all from flying. Over the past 10 years with the emergence of low-cost airlines flying has become relatively affordable and many who have never flown before have experienced it for the first time. With a continued rise in the cost due to harsh taxes we could well see the country go back in time to when only the rich could fly.

Whatever happens over the next few years with increased taxes and extra charges to how the airline industry works it will be pivotal for the UK, its businesses and residents.
