It seems that camping holidays are on the rise in the UK this year as more Brits decide to opt for the ‘staycation’ instead of the allure from a foreign destination.
“I’ve been in the travel business for 12 years, and I’ve booked more camping holidays this year than ever before. They’re great value for money. You simply pack your own food and entertainment, jump in the car, and drive to your destination. You could even get a cheap ferry from Dover to Calais, and have a family holiday in the south of France for around £300,” said Kerry Emson-Smith who works for Co-Operative Travel in Louth.
At Mrs Emson-Smith shop in Lincolnshire they have seen a steady rise in holiday bookings this year and to date she says they are 24 per cent up on bookings compared to the same last year.
With the advent of the economic turn down and holidaymakers choosing alternatives like camping or caravanning, outdoor style shops have seen an increase in sale. Camping stoves, tents hiking boots and all other things you would associate with the great outdoors is making a come back and giving much needed revenue to British store owners.
