George W Bush has recently spent time promoting his autobiography. The book focuses on 14 important decisions that he made during his life and presidency. He also says that lives were saved by information gained from militant suspects through waterboarding.
The former US president said that suspected terrorists were interrogated using waterboarding which simulates drowning. He added that through this technique information about plans to target Heathrow airport and Canary Wharf were revealed.
Bush’s autobiography is titled Decision Points which reflects the theme of the book. Included in the book is information that Bush gave Prime Minister Tony Blair the option to decide not to send UK soldiers to Iraq.
Bush commented in an interview that three people were interrogated using waterboarding and he feels that this saved lives. He said that he had approved the decision to use waterboarding on Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.
The UK government has condemned waterboarding as torture for many years. The former US president said that he has a strong relationship with Tony Blair but he was unconcerned about the British public’s opinions on the Iraqi war. He said that it is irrelevant what people in England think about him

In his autobiography Bush revealed his feelings about the failure to locate weapons of mass destruction during the war in Iraq. However he defended the choice he made by saying that the inhabitants of Iraq were better off without Saddam Hussein. He continued to say that the US was better off without Hussein in power.
