German man stranded at Brazilian airport
Posted on: February 10th, 2010 by Robert BergersonA German tourist, who flew to Brazil to spend time with a woman he met on the internet, has been left stranded after he was robbed of all his money and personal possessions around a month ago. This is the second report of a German being stranded at a Brazilian airport this month. The first gentleman flew back home late last week after spending a month hanging out in the airport. He was taken in for psychiatric tests as authorities there could see no reason why he would want or need to stay at the airport.
Klaus Gutschmidt has been staying at the airport since he was robbed while trying to find a hotel to stay in. Officials at the airport in Natal said the relationship with the woman he met online did not work out and after just one week he had left and was trying to find somewhere to stay. It was when he searched for a room that he got robbed. Mr Gutschmidt was not hurt in the incident, but was left with absolutely nothing. Airport staff in Natal felt sorry for the German and like in the Tom Hanks film, Terminal, clubbed together to but him meals so he world not go hungry.
He has been sleeping on flattened cardboard at the airport for around a month now, but is set to be flying back to Germany on the 16th February. Family and friends have pooled their money together to buy him a ticket home.
