Globe Car and Truck Rentals, a company based in Montreal (Quebec), is offering renters winter tire upgrades for only an extra $2.95 per day. Winter tires are not yet required for passenger vehicles in the province of Quebec, which means that it is not strictly necessary to have them on all cars. Nevertheless, this year’s tough winter, which has seen colder than average temperatures and far more snow than last year, has underlined the importance of the additional security that these tires provide. Additionally, a proposed law will seek to make snow tires mandatory for all vehicles, starting in 2009.
In addition to offering snow tires for a nominal daily fee, Globe also provides renters with GPS navigation tools completely free of charge. Globe appeals mainly to clients looking to hire budget, affordable cars and as such, the company guarantees that customers will receive the lowest prices on the market, as well as complimentary pick-up and drop-off anywhere on the Island of Montreal. The majority of Globe clients rent vehicles for at least one week, but many more are looking for medium term car hires, such as for an entire month. The firm was founded in 2000 and Globe’s claim to fame is that most of its cars are about 40% cheaper than those offered by rival companies. As with all major car hire firms, vehicles can now be booked online (www.globecar.ca ). Compact cars currently start at C$169.95 per week, while intermediate vehicles are available for $179.95, on a weekly basis.
