GPS device rentals help raise revenue for Enterprise
Posted on: June 24th, 2008 by Benjamin TierEnterprise Rent A Car has found that by offering their renters GPS navigation devices as extra add-ons to car hires, the firm is able to significantly raise its revenue and counterbalance increasing operating expenses when it comes to maintaining its fleet of vehicles and purchasing new cars. Robert Hibbard, Enterprise’s vice president, observed that over the course of the past three years since the car rental giant began offering these devices at all of its outlets, GPS navigation systems have turned into a necessity for many drivers, especially if they want to be efficient when driving. This is especially the case for those on business trips, where a navigation tool can save the renter from wasting precious time on the roads.
Michael J. Kane, a prominent car rental consultant, found that renters are essentially becoming “addicted” to GPS devices. This simply means that after trying it out the first time, they become so accustomed to the unparalleled convenience that it offers during the rental process that they can no longer even imagine hiring a vehicle without it again. Some rental companies in the past have even offered free GPS upgrades, in order to get customers used to this added luxury and ensure that they purchase this add-on the next time they hire a vehicle.
Getting clients attracted to these add-ons is crucially important for car hire companies as well, mainly because they have seen their operating costs rise by around 20 percent in the last couple of years alone. In most cases, this is due to the fact that they are no longer able to purchase as many cars at preferential rates from manufacturers as was possible in the past.
