Hatton ready for title shot

Matthew Hatton insists that Saturday’s world title match against Saul Alvarez is win-win opportunity for him.

Hatton, who is the younger brother of the two-weight world champion Richard, known to fans as Ricky, faces Mexico’s Alvarez in an attempt to land the WBC’s light-middleweight crown, which is vacant.

In a press conference ahead of the big fight, Hatton explained how he is going out to Anahiem in California, which is where the fight will be held, with everything to gain yet not a single thing to lose – which makes him a very dangerous opponent. However, he added that he is not there to simply make the numbers up and remains 100% confident that he will head back to his hometown Hyde, on the outskirts of Manchester, as a newly-crowned champion.

The 29-year-old then added that he is coming towards his peak, meaning that the fight couldn’t have come at a better time for him. In the eyes of many however, the match-up is seen as being quite controversial when considering that neither man has ever fought at light-middleweight in their careers, while Ryan Rhodes, who is currently ranked number four in the division, claims that he was never offered the fight.

The legendary Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines relinquished the strap in February month after he agreed to a bout with ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley down at welterweight. Alvarez was the WBC’s highest ranked contender.
