Hertz Corporation to Offer Renault Twizy in Europe

The Hertz Corporation and Renault have signed a letter of intent for the American car hire company to be one of the first operators to offer the French automaker’s Twizy as a rental throughout Europe. However, the Kangoo Z.E., Fluence Z.E. and ZOE are also part of the deal. These cars will be added to the rental fleets of Hertz and Connect by Hertz, the car sharing club.

The letter of intent was signed at the Geneva Motor Show and further demonstrates Hertz’s commitment to providing zero-emissions mobility solutions to customers. The company plans to add 500 units of the Renault models to its fleet in Europe over the next 2 years. This partnership will form a part of the company’s Global Electric Vehicle Program, which was launched in December and is designed to bring a variety of electric cars to the general public.

Hertz Corporation chairman and chief executive Mark Frissora said that they are committed to implementing their Electric Vehicle initiative around the world, and the partnership with Renault will be a vital part of the roll-out in Europe. The automaker has developed a full range of electric cars, he continued, which demonstrates that style, design and flexibility are zero-emissions compatible. They look forward to providing drivers with the chance to drive these vehicles from the start of next year, he added.

Renault senior vice president of corporate sales Uwe Hochgeschurtz said that electric cars are the real long-term solution to the noise and environmental pollution issues of today. They have created an exciting range to meet the needs of consumers and business travelers, he continued. Their partnership with Hertz will allow the public to experience this innovative technology first-hand, he added, as well as develop their understanding of the range’s environmental benefits.
