Hertz now allows renters to plan just about every detail of their trip online, before they actually drive off with their rental car. This new service is part of Hertz’s popular NeverLost satellite navigation device, which is available with all US and most European rentals, in the form of an upgrade. Hertz clients are asked to simply visit NeverLost’s website (www.neverlost.com ) and fill in all the details of their itinerary and save this information to a memory stick, or any other USB storage device. Once the car has been picked up and the GPS system has been installed, the renter can simply plug the USB memory stick into the NeverLost device and rest assured that he/she will receive accurate directions to all previously indicated location. This new service has the potential to remove any remaining headaches associated with car rentals, by allowing renters to arrange all aspects of their trip from their home computer. This represents a very significant improvement over how Hertz’s NeverLost system worked in the past, when clients had to manually enter each destination separately while sitting in the car.
The new online trip planning service includes several other benefits as well. For example, renters are able to use online versions of the Yellow Pages to find the exact addresses and contact information of businesses, track down the locations of gas stations along specific routes, modify the order in which the client will make stops, in an effort to make the drive faster and more effective, and renters are also offered useful city guides, with information on key attractions, restaurants and cultural establishments.
