Hertz Offers 11 New NeverLost Apps

My Explore Hertz NeverLost AppLast week, the Hertz Corporation and Navigation Solutions announced the launch of 11 new travel apps for the iPhone. These NeverLost My Explore apps are part of a suite of planning tools designed to make it easier and more exciting for travellers to create itineraries and experience cities. The first app can be downloaded for free, while others will cost 99 cents.

Navigation Solutions is one of the Hertz Corporation’s wholly-owned subsidiaries and is based in Texas. It’s the developer behind NeverLost. The travel system is a user-friendly, customisable route-guidance device that provides turn-by-turn visual and audio directions to nearly every destination in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. It also develops and markets customised destination-specific smartphone apps for travellers under the My Explore brand.

The debut cities on the My Explore app include Miami-West Palm Beach, Orlando, Washington, DC, New York, Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Las Vegas, San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Los Angeles and Sacramento-Northern California. Every app is ideal for both leisure and business travellers and has six custom categories – Tours, Neighbourhoods, Events, Top Must See, Explore and Favourites.

The tours category allows users to rediscover a city, the neighbourhoods category allows travellers to explore niche areas, and the events category allows travellers to find a special event or choose a must-see attraction. Some of the app’s other features include text descriptions and customised voice narratives for must-see sites, access to 5-day weather forecasts, the latest iconic images of the city, a way to share via Twitter and Facebook, and augmented reality.

My Explore Hawaii was the first app in the series, and it covered the travel market on the islands of Big Island, Maui, Oahu and Kauai. It was initially launched in May last year, and new cities are due to be added in the middle of this year for a total of 18. Its use complements the NeverLost navigation unit that Hertz provides with its rentals upon request for $12.99 a day. They allow for download codes so that information can be easily transferred to the unit.

The unique thing about NeverLost is that it gives users access to free, concierge-style customer service with live travel support. Renters can phone travel experts every day from 6:30am to midnight if they need help planning their trip, re-routing or just need tips. Last-minute travel changes and pre-planned trips can be sent to the car wirelessly for stress-free and seamless travel.

Hertz chairman and chief executive Mark P. Frissora says that the NeverLost My Explore apps include cutting-edge technology and custom content that fully leverage the knowledge that Navigation Solutions has of the travel market. They are always focused on the customer experience, which they are able to enhance beyond the car by taking an all-encompassing approach with their technology. This makes NeverLost a complete travel solution that can’t be offered by any other competitor.

The Hertz Corporation is the biggest airport general use car hire brand in the world, operating from about 8,500 corporate and licencee locations across some 150 nations. Additionally, the group operates an equipment rental business, car sharing network and offers some of the best collections of family vehicles, luxury cars and adrenaline experiences.
