Hertz Rent-A-Car has announced that it will charge less for clients who return their vehicle at the end of the car rental period without having filled up the tank. Previously, Hertz-as well as just about all car hire firms-charged noticeably more for these fill-ups than what clients would have to pay had they simply bought their petrol at any gas station. As such, renters had to make sure that they returned their hired vehicles with a full tank at the end of the rental period, in order to avoid having to pay these extra fees. According to the new standards, however, Hertz will charge the exact same amount available at the pumps when it comes to filling up a rental car with a tank of petrol, but it will still require clients to pay an extra fee, amounting to $6.99, for this service.
This represents an important departure from previous practices, when the car hire giant would charge a hefty $7.50 per gallon of gas, at a time when the price at nearly all pumps was well under $4.00. The current fuel program, however, will be available at Hertz’s airport and suburban locations throughout the mainland United States, Puerto Rico and Canada. As an extra advantage, Hertz has also decided to keep offering renters a complimentary tank of petrol until July 14, 2008, due to the promotional deal’s significant popularity. In order to receive the free tank of gasoline, clients must be sure to book a vehicle for a period of at least three consecutive days. Additionally, renters are asked to mention the correct promotional code (namely, “113120”), at the time of pick-up.
