The worldwide car hire provider, Hertz, has announced this week that they plan to bring electric hire cars into both the US and European market within the next two years. They have teamed up with Japanese firm Nissan to launch the zero emission vehicles and will start to take delivery of the LEAF later this year. Hertz said they have chosen Nissan because their LEAF is the first no emissions car on the road that will be affordable to the public.
The Nissan LEAF has yet to hit the roads and already it has been winning awards all over the world. Just the name of the car has been found most original and it stands for Leading, Environmentally Friendly, Affordable, Family Car, a bit of a mouthful to say when you want to order one from Hertz. The car is a medium size family hatchback with plenty of space on the inside for a shopping and trips out with the kids. It can travel around 100 miles on a single charge, which should cover most people journeys around town.
The move by Hertz to bring in the zero-emissions car will be greatly received by the environmentalists. It will also be appealing to those that are starting to think more about their surroundings and how much of a carbon footprint they are leaving. Peugeot are also launching an electric vehicle rental service in London later this year. They have already been trials at four French cities and the electric range of cars, vans and motorbikes have proved popular.
