Hire a car and plant a tree

The car hire company Green Motion is promising to plant one tree each time one of its cars is rented.

Green Motion, which opened for business just last October, reports that it offers customers not only the latest models of cars for, but also those with the lowest carbon dioxide emissions.

It has recently announced a joint offering with Trees4Good, a carbon offsetting company, which will result in the firm planting a tree every time someone rents a Green Motion car.

Green Motion is absorbing all costs of the scheme, and won’t be asking customers to pay any additional fees.

The tree-planting will occur mostly in Brazil and Borneo rainforests.

The aim of the initiative is to focus on re-forestation where rainforests have been the most severely impacted, and at the same time providing employment opportunities for locals.

Richard Lowden, the founder of Green Motion, said: “We feel that Trees4Good is the perfect partner for Green Motion as it is not only committed to saving the environment but has taken an extremely moral and sustainable approach.”

Green Motion describes itself as the first fully environmentally friendly car hire company in the world. It currently features four locations in the UK, two of which are in London and the others in Oxford and Milton Keynes.

Additional branches will be opening soon in Birmingham, Blackburn, Leeds, Leicester, Manchester Central, Manchester South and Nottingham – before the year end.
