Lastminute.com has quickly jumped on the rumour mill and insists that they have not put their car hire firm on the market. It was also said that a high level financial consultant was put in charge of the pending sale again denied by the travel company.
The internet based travel company who have been operating for 11 years, purchased the car hire company back in 2003 and said that they would not comment on rumours and speculation, but insisted that they had not made HolidayAutos available to buy.
The latest bit of chat that has been working its way around senior industry business companies, comes just nine months after the online site denied that its hotel brand MedHotels was up for sale and then went ahead and accepted a bid from the Thomas Cook Group just a few weeks later.
If the car rental firm is sold it would dramatically reduce the portfolios of the companies owned by Travelocity since 2005. Brent Hoberman and Martha Lane Fox were co-founders of lastminute.com back in 1998 and grew a good foundation of companies but these have been stripped back to the basics by selling off MedHotels and Deckchair and maybe soon HolidayAutos.
