All British holidaymakers have been advised by the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) to check in with tour operators and read the small print of their travel insurance as swine flu starts to sweep across the UK.
School term is close to breaking up for the summer and holidays with the family then follow. However ABTA are saying if anyone contracts swine flu they should follow the advice of their doctor about whether to stay at home or not.
There are around 10,000 Brits who have contracted the flu already in the UK and just a few days ago saw the first death of an apparently healthy male. He was the fifteenth victim in Britain but the other 14 all had other conditions such as heart disease.
ABTA have reported that some travel agents had received calls regarding insurance policies and would they cover cancellation or postponements due to swine flu cases. They advised all travellers to check their insurance policies before making decisions on cancelling holidays. Some travel agents have stated they will happily change dates if they are available, however the holiday period is just moving into the busiest time of the year and there are already a lot of bookings and there is usually a charge for changing dates.
