Hotel prices in Europe on the rise

According to new research by an internet comparison website the average price of a European double hotel room has jumped up by three per cent to €102 for one night. This is the first rise in cost since September 2009 and it is expected to be the way the year will go. Special events in Europe have encouraged the price to rise slightly like the London Fashion Week pumping prices up by eight per cent and the Venice Carnival sky rocketing costs up by around 31 per cent. Other top January hot spots included Milan, Barcelona and Bologna as people wanted to escape from the cold winters they were experiencing at home.

As well as the rises though, there were also a number of countries where their average room cost fell. In particular Eastern Europe was the hottest place to head to for some fantastic deals. In Krakow, Poland prices of their hotels fell by more than 25 per cent to a low of just €56 per night. Budapest hotels fell by around 14 per cent to €62 and hotels in Prague dropped to €65 for one room.

It has been a hard slog for hotels all over Europe these past 12 months and many have struggled to make financial forecasts. Prices dropped to an all-time low last year as hoteliers tried desperately to encourage us back into their rooms. The last quarter of the year picked up a little on the previous year, but there was no fireworks going off.
