Connect by Hertz has this week launched a fleet of cars at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. The last of the cars was rolled into position at the campus and coordinators of the project hope that it will be a service that will greatly benefit staff and students alike. It will be cheap, environmentally friendly (compared to owning a car), and will be a great transport option for all.
Connect have many different payment plans available for everyone at the university and the cheapest one starts with an annual fee of $50, with the first year being free if registered by the end of April, and then just $9.50 per hour. The hourly fee will include insurance, maintenance cost, and fuel, which has got to be a plus. The campus will initially have six cars on site and four of them will be hybrids to help the environment even more.
The university will be the first in Canada to make the connection with Hertz after the rental firm has made such an impact on universities across the US. A spokesman said they have seen how successful it has been at other campuses and wanted to give another option transport options to their students and staff that will not break the bank.
Hertz have said they will take full control of the cost of running the programme with campus handling advertising and providing parking spaces for the cars. Students on campus are excited about the programme and many said they cannot wait to get behind the wheel at lunchtime.
