Hybrid Cars available for hire at selected Avis London sites
Posted on: June 29th, 2007 by Martin FellowesAvis have announced that customers in London who feel strongly about the effects that motoring is having on the environment now have the choice of a Toyota Prius hybrid vehicle when they hire from Avis Rent-A-Car.
The Toyota Prius is powered by a combination of a petrol engine and electric motors and is gradually being introduced into the Avis fleet across the world. This ‘greener’ approach to motoring is apparently going down very well with Avis customers. The company policy is to provide their customers with an alternative to conventionally fuelled vehicles not only to fulfill a customer need but also to improve their own ‘green’ credentials. Several Avis outlets across Europe now have these hybrid vehicles on offer.
Avis in Germany have added VW Tourans that are powered by natural gas to their fleet and in Portugal Honda Civics that are petrol/electric hybrids are available to hire. Avis Sweden is perhaps leading the way with their ethanol fuelled Saab BioPower models. They now have over five hundred on the road. They are also renting out Ford Focus FlexiFuel vehicles and the Toyota Prius.
It is becoming increasingly obvious to companies involved in the car rental industry that the carbon footprint of their businesses must be reduced. The introduction of alternatively fuelled vehicles makes sense in that the awareness of customers to the problems of global warming is increasing and they should be provided with a ‘greener’ option when renting a car.
