InterContinental To Hire More Than 50,000 U.S. Staff

The world’s biggest hotelier, InterContinental Hotels Group, has announced that it wants to hire 50,000 more employees in the U.S. – the hiring process will take from three to five years, approximately.

Americas president for InterContinental, Steve Porter, said that the group is in need of more workers. Supposedly, Intercontinental foresees more growth in their pipeline, he said in an interview. The hotel group posted a 22 percent rise in profit for the first quarter. It said that its business is well poised for increased growth although the U.S. economy has spurred an economic downturn around the world.

The group also said that the U.S. makes up approximately 70 percent of InterContinental’s profits. Porter added that the group is adding about one hotel each day. In addition, if that were extrapolated to a period of a year, it would translate into 300 general managers, more than 900 to 1,200 division chiefs, and a high number of hotel-level line employees.

He explained that the group’s U.S. business currently provides jobs for approximately 165,000 workers. That includes InterContinental’s hotels and corporate offices. However, Porter is confident that a lot of good jobs are up and coming and more employees are needed to fill in for the hotel group’s ambitious growth.

He continued to say that InterContinental is expecting about 55,000 workers to join the group – and this will be just in the U.S. segment. Most of these workers are going to be based in the U.S. itself – perhaps about 49,000.
