Italian cruise line featured on Ryanair website

Costa Cruises has announced the signing of a three-year deal with Ryanair that will see it as the only cruise line to be featured on the budget carrier’s website. The objective of the agreement is to broaden the reach of cruise-only offerings.

More than 50 Ryanair routes connect with Costa departure locations.

Costa cruises can be booked on Ryanair’s UK website and will subsequently become available on the carrier’s websites in seven European countries.

Marco Rosa, the managing director of Costa UK, has stressed that Ryanair would not be receiving preferential rates that would undercut its agency partners.

“We want to reassure agents that we won’t be trashing prices through the Ryanair website,” Rosa said.

The Costa executive added: “This is a new product. We don’t want to move the typical cruise passenger who would book through a travel agent. This is one extra channel on top of the existing ones.”

Rosa noted that the cruise line was seeking supplementary business from Ryanair passengers who might be new to cruising.

He feels that the initial result of the link with Ryanair will be enhanced Costa brand recognition across the UK.
